The Guild of Yoruba Media Practitioners (GYMP), Kwara State Chapter, has paid a courtesy visit to Sobi 101.9FM, Ilorin, as part of its ongoing engagement with broadcast media organisations across the state.
The delegation was warmly received by the Programme Manager of the station, Mr. Oluwafemi Oparinde, who hosted the Guild on behalf of the General Manager.
Mr. Oparinde expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the Guild for its consistency in promoting professionalism and the preservation of cultural values within the broadcast industry.
He assured the delegation of Sobi FM’s readiness to sustain a cordial working relationship with the Guild, particularly in the collective effort to promote the Yoruba language and culture.
He further noted that the gift presented by the Guild would significantly assist Duty Continuity Announcers (DCAs) by providing proper orientation, especially on the rules of engagement required for effective and responsible broadcasting.
Speaking on behalf of the Guild, its Chairman, Chief Olusegun Ajileye, explained that the visit was part of the association’s statutory activities aimed at educating and sensitising radio personnel.
Chief Ajileye stressed that the Guild was established to ensure the proper and correct use of the Yoruba language on radio, adding that Yoruba broadcasters must uphold professionalism in all ramifications, including diction, content delivery, ethics, and adherence to broadcast regulations.
He described radio personnel as integral to the success of any media organisation, noting that continuous engagement and capacity-building are essential for sustaining quality broadcasting and preserving cultural heritage.
Chief Ajileye concluded by thanking the management of Sobi 101.9FM for the warm reception and expressed optimism that the partnership would further enhance standard Yoruba broadcasting across Kwara State.
