The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the collection of ransom following the abduction of three persons in Obudu Village, Ilorin East Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Muhamodu Sanni, was arrested at a Point-of-Sale (POS) outlet while allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds linked to the recent abduction.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
According to the statement, the breakthrough followed intelligence-led operations launched after armed kidnappers invaded Obudu Village on July 28 and abducted three persons.
Rather than focusing solely on the scene of the attack, police investigators reportedly expanded their probe to the communication, logistics and financial channels allegedly supporting the kidnapping operation.
The approach, the police said, led operatives to Sanni, who was intercepted while allegedly attempting to cash out ransom proceeds connected to the abduction.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly made useful disclosures about his alleged role in the ransom collection process and provided information on other suspected members of the syndicate, identified as Aminu and Umar.
The Command said the information obtained from the suspect had strengthened its intelligence on the kidnapping network, adding that further operational leads were being discreetly pursued.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, reassured residents that the Command would continue its intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting criminal networks and preventing them from operating freely.
The police also urged residents to support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and credible information that could assist in tackling criminal activities across the state.
