The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, has called for stronger collaboration between the media and the academic community, describing journalists as key partners in promoting the institution’s growth and achievements.
Egbewole made the appeal while hosting journalists, members of the university community and other stakeholders at the institution’s 2026 Ramadan Iftar held on Tuesday evening at the University of Ilorin Staff Quarters in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor commended journalists for their role in projecting the university’s activities and urged continued support in showcasing the institution’s academic, research and developmental strides.
He noted that sustained media engagement is vital for improving public understanding of the university’s contributions to national development.
The gathering brought together principal officers, staff members, students and media practitioners in a spirit of reflection and fellowship during the Ramadan season.
Egbewole also used the occasion to stress the importance of unity, tolerance and cooperation within the university community, encouraging participants to use the Ramadan period to strengthen relationships and promote mutual understanding.
The university’s Chief Imam led prayers at the event before participants observed the breaking of the fast together.
The Ramadan Iftar forms part of the university’s tradition of fostering engagement with stakeholders, including the media, while promoting dialogue and collaboration within the academic community.
