The Adanla community in Irese, Kwara State, has denied reports claiming it accused government and security agencies of abandoning nine residents who were abducted last December despite the alleged payment of a N40 million ransom.
In a statement issued by the Elerin-in-Council and the National Executive of the Adanla Community Development Association (ACDA), the community described the report published by Afrika Eyes on March 6, 2026, as false and misleading.
The statement, jointly signed by the Elerin of Adanla-Irese, Oba Dr. David S. O. Oyerinola Adedunmoye, and the National President of the Adanla Community Development Association, Elder Philip O. Adigun, stressed that the community never suggested that the government or security agencies failed in efforts to secure the release of the victims, nor authorised anyone to speak on its behalf to that effect.
According to the community leaders, authorities at various levels and security operatives made sustained efforts following the abduction of nine indigenes from Adanla on December 26, 2025.
They noted that the intervention and coordinated efforts of government and security agencies ultimately led to the safe release of all nine victims without injury.
The community added that issues relating to security are often sensitive and may not always be discussed publicly, warning that the silence of authorities on such matters should not be misinterpreted as inaction.
Adanla leaders commended the roles played by the federal, state and local governments as well as security agencies in ensuring the safety of residents in Kwara State.
They also expressed appreciation to neighbouring communities, associations, individuals and groups who supported the efforts to secure the release of the abducted residents.
The statement further urged media organisations to verify information with relevant authorities before publication in order to avoid misinformation and sensational reporting.
