The Turaki of Ilorin and Senator representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, Saliu Mustapha, has congratulated veteran journalist and Chief Promoter of Gerin 95.5 FM, Dr. Mahmud AbdulRaheem, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
Senator Mustapha, in a statement issued by his media aide, Nasif Sholagberu, joined family members, friends, colleagues in the media industry and well-wishers across Nigeria in celebrating the seasoned broadcaster for his decades of service to journalism and broadcasting.
The lawmaker described Dr. Mahmud AbdulRaheem as a distinguished media professional whose contributions to the development of broadcasting in Kwara State and Nigeria at large have remained significant and impactful.
He noted that as a lawyer, academic and seasoned administrator, Dr. Mahmud AbdulRaheem had made remarkable contributions to the growth of the media sector, particularly during his tenure as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation and through his service with the National Broadcasting Commission.
According to Senator Mustapha, the celebrant’s wealth of experience, professionalism and commitment to ethical journalism have helped strengthen the broadcasting landscape not only in Kwara State but also across Nigeria.
The senator also commended Dr. Mahmud AbdulRaheem for his role in promoting indigenous culture and community development through Gerin 95.5 FM, widely regarded as the first community radio station in the Ilorin Emirate.
He said the station has played an important role in projecting the cultural heritage, values and traditions of the Ilorin Emirate to wider audiences.
He further acknowledged Dr. Mahmud AbdulRaheem’s enduring legacy in mentoring younger journalists and media practitioners, noting that his contributions continue to inspire a new generation of professionals within Nigeria’s media industry.
Senator Mustapha also noted that Dr. AbdulRaheem comes from a family with a strong tradition of public service, being a brother to former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and former Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Professor Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem and prayed to Almighty Allaah to grant the veteran broadcaster continued good health, long life and the strength to keep contributing to national development and the advancement of the Nigerian media industry.
