Osun Digital Media Week 2025 entered its second day on Thursday, 4 December, with a renewed call for the adoption of technology and artificial intelligence to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral processes and information ecosystem.
The Chairman of the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA), Mr. Mukhtar Ajelogbon, while welcoming participants to the three-day event, described the gathering as “a convergence of innovators, media professionals, policy drivers, and thought leaders committed to advancing democratic governance through digital solutions.”
He said this year’s theme: “Harnessing Technology and Artificial Intelligence Towards Credible Elections and Information Dissemination in Nigeria” underscores the urgency for Nigeria to embrace digital innovations that will promote transparency, accuracy, and accountability in public communication as the country continues to deepen its democratic experience.
Ajelogbon expressed delight that OOPA is hosting the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, whom he described as a seasoned expert whose perspectives will be pivotal in exploring how emerging technologies can enhance election credibility, improve media professionalism, and transform citizen engagement.
The OOPA Chairman outlined activities slated for the programme, including Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, a free medical outreach, a public lecture, and a refresher course designed to enhance members’ competence in digital journalism and AI-powered reporting.
According to him, the medical outreach, sponsored by Shifauk Group of Hospitals, reinforces the association’s commitment to societal well-being beyond digital engagements, while the capacity-building workshop is strategically designed to prepare journalists for the demands of the modern media landscape.
Highlighting the association’s achievements within two years of his leadership, Ajelogbon listed eight milestones: periodic digital training for members, the establishment of an official secretariat, opening of a corporate bank account, improved welfare through advertising partnerships, launch of the association’s official website, appointment of a matron, expansion of membership from 16 to 21, and strengthened partnerships with media organisations within and outside Osun State.
“These achievements demonstrate OOPA’s strategic positioning as a fully digitised organisation and a major stakeholder in the future of journalism,” he said, adding confidently, “OOPA is 100% digital. This means we are the future of journalism, and the future is now.”
Ajelogbon appreciated dignitaries and supporters, including the state government’s representative, Hon. Eniola Odeniyi; the association’s patron, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Hameed Oyelude Makama, the Olowu of Kuta; Matron, Mrs. Funmi Abokede of Osun CSDA; Shifauk Group of Hospitals; Engr. Olalekan Badmus of the Nigerian Ports Authority; and Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (K-RAD), among others, for their contributions to the success of the event.
He commended the Planning Committee led by Mr. Adesoji Omosebi, the executive members, and his wife, whom he described as “a dependable pillar in this leadership journey.”
Ajelogbon expressed optimism that the ongoing sessions would be insightful and transformative, urging all stakeholders to sustain conversations that shape the future of journalism, technology, and democratic participation.
The 2025 Osun Digital Media Week continues with plenary sessions, training, and other engagements scheduled for Day 3.
