Shepherd School, Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State has won this year’s tax club quiz competition organized by Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS).
The Grand Finale of the event held in Ilorin, Kwara Capital, saw the school winning cash prize of N2.5million.
In the final round of the competition, Shepherd garnered 20 points, leaving its closest challenger, Government Secondary School, Lafiagi with 16 points to clinch second position while Saint Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin secured third position with 10 points with Roemichs International Schools, Ilorin and Ansarudeen College, Offa following suit respectively.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, at the event, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment toward the development of education sector.
Speaking through his Deputy Chief Staff, Mrs Olubukola Babalola, the Governor applauded KW-IRS for promoting tax awareness through quiz competition.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended the participating schools and the students for their quest in acquiring education to become responsible citizens of the nation.
Declaring open the 2025 KW-IRS tax club quiz competition, Executive Chairman, Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Shade Omoniyi, congratulated the ninety-nine (99) schools drawn from both public and private secondary schools across the state for expressing interest in this year’s competition.
Omoniyi particularly recognized the six (6) schools that made it to grand finale after rigorous preliminary and semi-final stages held earlier in the year as every student present, whether their school made it to the finals or not, they are all winners.
She encouraged them to remain committed to their studies, believe in their abilities, and know that the sky cannot be the limit to their future accomplishments.
The Executive Chairman identified the tax club quiz competition as an educational initiative of the revenue agency under its 5-Es community impact programmes that connote Enterprise, Energy, Education, Empowerment, and Environment.
She explained that the programme was deliberately designed to nurture a tax-compliant generation by exposing young minds to the fundamentals of taxation right from secondary school to taxable adulthood.
In her remarks, Convener, KW-IRS Tax Club Advocacy, Mrs Funmilola Oguntunbi, appreciated Executive Chairman, Shade Omoniyi, for her unwavering support, visionary leadership, and continuous encouragement in sustaining the annual competition.
Oguntunbi thanked participating schools, teachers, and coordinators for their dedication, sacrifice, and guidance.
Dailysource reports that twelve (12) schools advanced to the semi-final stage, while six (6) outstanding schools competed for the grand prize of Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦2,500,000.00).
The second and third positions received ₦1,500,000.00 and ₦1,000,000.00 respectively while participating schools got consolation prizes in recognition of their efforts and commitment.
The event, now in its eighth year, is one of the Service’s most cherished platforms for engaging, educating, and inspiring the younger generation, Oguntunbi
The event was laced with goodwill messages from Ministries of Education, Youth Development, Emir of Ilorin, Emir of Ilesha-Baruba and Education Stakeholders among others.
