The Pan African Writers Association ( PAWA) has conferred on the President of Guinea Conakry, His Excellency, Mamadi Doumbouya the Grand Patron of the Arts Award for his exemplary support for Literature and Culture.
The award which was presented on behalf of PAWA by the Secretary General, Dr Wale Okediran took place on Thursday April 23 2026 at the Presidential palace in Conakry during the official presentation of prizes to winners of the inaugural President Doumbouya's Literature prize.
Dr Okediran emphasized that President Doumbouya deserved the award because of his commitment to Literature and Culture as was exemplified by the high quality of the ongoing CONAKRY 72 HOURS OF THE BOOK FAIR which was well supported by the Guinean government.
In addition, the recently established Presidential Literature prize which was generously endowed, was worthy of emulation by other African presidents.
The 42-year old Guinean President who first came into power in 2021 through a military coup, later contested for elections in 2025 and was sworn in as a civilian President on 17th January 2026.
