The Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a criminal syndicate linked to vandalism and armed robbery activities along the Asa Dam/Dangote Road axis in Ilorin metropolis.
The arrest was made by operatives of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) during an intelligence-led operation carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, May 27, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation followed sustained surveillance and credible intelligence prompted by complaints from residents over increasing criminal activities within the area.
The statement said the operatives responded swiftly to suspicious movements around the Tanke area of Ilorin, leading to the arrest of the suspects believed to be involved in the vandalism of government-installed solar streetlights and other robbery-related crimes.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are part of a wider criminal network operating across key locations within the Ilorin metropolis.
Items recovered from the suspects included two locally made pistols, pliers, and suspected hard drugs allegedly used in carrying out their operations.
The police added that further intelligence-driven investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate as well as those receiving stolen items from the group.
Commending the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Adekimi Ojo, said the success demonstrated the command’s commitment to proactive policing, sustained surveillance, and the protection of lives and property across the state.
He assured residents that the command would not allow criminal elements to operate freely within Kwara State.
