The Kwara State Police Command has recorded a series of breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on crime across the state, including the interception of ammunition concealed in food items, the arrest of suspected kidnappers and cultists, and the recovery of a human skull allegedly meant for ritual purposes.
The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this during a press briefing in Ilorin on Friday, where he highlighted the command’s recent successes driven by intelligence-led policing and collaboration with other security agencies.
According to him, operatives intercepted an unregistered vehicle along the Ajase-Ipo Road and discovered 98 rounds of live ammunition hidden inside a bag of garri, in what he described as a deliberate attempt to evade detection. Three suspects were linked to the operation, with one reportedly paid about N1.3 million to procure the ammunition, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.
The police command also arrested several suspected cultists in different parts of the state, recovering weapons and other incriminating items. Some of the suspects reportedly confessed to belonging to cult groups linked to criminal activities, including robbery and community disturbances.
In a related development, a 29-year-old suspect was apprehended during a routine patrol, with items such as mobile phones, chargers and a POS machine recovered from him. Police said his inconsistent explanations raised suspicion, and he is currently under investigation for possible involvement in kidnapping activities.
In another shocking case, operatives arrested a suspect identified as Hamza Woru in Kaiama for unlawful possession of a human skull. Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly exhumed the remains of a deceased relative and attempted to sell the skull for ritual purposes. The case has since been charged to court, while his accomplice remains at large.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against criminality, assuring residents that efforts are being intensified to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
