The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), has extended Easter greetings to members of the university’s Christian community and Christians worldwide.
In a statement issued by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Vice-Chancellor described Easter as a significant period in Christendom, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after His crucifixion.
Prof. Egbewole, who also serves as Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), noted that Easter offers an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice, exemplary life, and enduring legacy of Jesus Christ.
He urged Christians, as well as adherents of other faiths, to embody the virtues of selflessness, civility, and faith symbolised by the occasion.
The Vice-Chancellor, who is also Chairman of the Consortium of Kwara Universities (KU8+), called on Christians to celebrate responsibly and remember the less privileged by extending support to those in need, in the spirit of love and peace.
He further highlighted the rare overlap of Ramadan and Lent this year, describing it as a reminder of the need for unity in the service of God and the advancement of humanity.
Prof. Egbewole also commended the cordial relationship between Muslim and Christian members of the university community, describing it as a model worthy of emulation for national cohesion and lasting peace.
He wished Christians within the university and across the country a peaceful and fulfilling Easter celebration.
