Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has inaugurated Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe and Dr. Maryam Nnafatima Imam as new commissioners, urging them to be team players and align with the administration’s vision for progress across various sectors.
Their appointments come with a cabinet reshuffle, as Olohungbebe takes charge of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, while Nnafatima assumes office as the Commissioner for Social Development.
As part of the changes, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu now leads the Ministry of Tertiary Education, while Dr. Mary Arinde moves to the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development. Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi becomes the pioneer Commissioner for Transportation, a newly created ministry, while Olohuntoyosi Thomas Adebayo, formerly of Agriculture and Rural Development, now heads the Ministry of Livestock Development.
In another key swap, Dr. Afeez Abolore replaces Adebayo at Agriculture and Rural Development, while Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh, formerly of Social Development, takes over Solid Minerals.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Governor AbdulRazaq described the new appointments as a “deserving elevation” from their previous roles as Senior Special Assistants. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and innovation in public service.
“Today marks not just the beginning of a new chapter for the commissioners but also a renewed commitment to serving the people of Kwara State with dedication, integrity, and vision,” the governor stated.
He highlighted the administration’s achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, social inclusion, and economic development, urging the new appointees to uphold the state’s progress.
“As you both step into your new roles, I urge you to embrace creativity, always stay connected with the people, think outside the box, and apply prudence in every decision made,” he added.
Governor AbdulRazaq reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to leaving Kwara better than it was, charging the new commissioners to contribute meaningfully to the government’s ongoing reforms.
