Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has approved a financial bonus for civil servants across the state, including local government employees, aimed at mitigating the impact of economic challenges.
According to the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, in a statement signed today by Babatunde Toyin Abdulrasheed, Press Secretary for the Ministry of Finance, the bonus will be equivalent to the monthly PAYE deduction and will be provided for at least three months.
“This bonus has been approved as a buffer to help bridge the gap caused by the correct PAYE deduction under the newly implemented minimum wage,” Dr. Nuru stated.
“It is intended as a relief measure as workers adjust to the revised PAYE deductions now in line with the Personal Income Tax Act. The payment is effective from October and will continue through December 2024.”
The Finance Ministry emphasized that workers must register with the Kwara State Residents’ Registration Agency (KWSRRA) to receive the bonus for November and December.
Additionally, Dr. Nuru noted that labour unions have agreed to refund a special levy previously deducted from workers' salaries and suspend further deductions.
“Governor AbdulRazaq’s directive underscores his dedication to the well-being of Kwara’s workforce,” added Dr. Nuru.
