Armed bandits have killed five security personnel in an early morning attack on a police facility in Kwara State, authorities confirmed on Friday.
The incident occurred at about 3:45 a.m. on April 10, 2026, when gunmen launched a coordinated assault on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp located in Nuku Village, via Kaiama. According to the Kwara State Police Command, the attackers engaged security operatives in a gun battle during the raid.
Five members of the National Forest Guard were fatally shot in the attack, while a police patrol vehicle was extensively damaged. However, officers stationed at the camp eventually repelled the assailants.
Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the command strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a serious security breach.
The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, expressed deep sympathy to the families of the victims and assured residents that tactical and intelligence-driven operations have commenced to apprehend those responsible.
Meanwhile, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also reacted to the incident, mourning the slain forest guards and commending their bravery in the line of duty.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the state and working with security agencies to curb persistent attacks in affected communities.
Residents have been urged to remain calm but vigilant, and to support ongoing investigations by providing useful information to security agencies.
The latest attack underscores growing security concerns in parts of Kwara, particularly in rural communities around Kaiama, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted both civilians and security formations in recent months.
