The Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) has inaugurated a new set of executives to steer the affairs of the association for the next two years, following the completion of the administration led by Mukhtar Ajelogbon.
The swearing-in ceremony took place in Osogbo on Thursday, March 27, 2026, where the newly elected executives formally assumed office. The oath of office was administered by the Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Jamiu Babatunde of Entrust Reporters.
The association had earlier conducted its election on Saturday, February 28, 2026, which produced Comrade Abioye Tosin Lawrence, publisher of Oriontimes News, as the new chairman. Idowu Abass of Idealplusgist News was elected Vice Chairman, while Adekale Babatunde of Spyloaded Media emerged as General Secretary and Fatai Akanji of Adulawo News as Financial Secretary.
In his farewell address, the outgoing chairman, Mukhtar Ajelogbon, described his two-year tenure from March 2024 to March 2026 as one driven by a “Team Work Agenda,” noting that the administration recorded significant achievements and strengthened the foundation of the association.
Reflecting on his time in office as the fourth elected chairman of the association, Ajelogbon expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and members of the association for their unwavering support throughout his tenure. He emphasized that the achievements recorded were made possible through collective effort and commitment from members and the executive council.
Among the key milestones highlighted were regular training workshops focused on capacity building and the integration of artificial intelligence in digital media, the securing of a functional secretariat in Osogbo, the establishment of an official bank account for the association, improved welfare for members through advertisement partnerships, and the launch of the association’s official website.
He also listed the appointment of a matron to strengthen institutional support, expansion of membership, and the distribution of power banks to members to address challenges caused by erratic power supply as part of the administration’s accomplishments.
Ajelogbon paid tribute to members of his executive team, the association’s patron, and other supporters within and outside the media space. He gave special recognition to the late Adesoji Omosebi for his contributions to the association, describing his role in planning and coordination as invaluable. He also acknowledged the foundational efforts of past leaders, including Jare Tiamiyu, for laying a solid groundwork upon which his administration built.
Calling for unity and professionalism among members, the outgoing chairman stressed that the future of journalism lies in digital media and urged members to continuously improve their skills while supporting one another. He emphasized that internal cohesion is essential for the association to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving media environment.
With the leadership baton now handed over to the new executives, expectations remain high as the association looks forward to further growth and development. Ajelogbon’s exit marks the end of a significant chapter in the history of OOPA, leaving behind a legacy centered on growth, innovation, and unity.
