Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has called on Nigerian journalists to put the nation’s interest first in their reportage to foster a better society.
Speaking at the grand finale of the 2025 Press Week of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, the governor, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, stressed the need for responsible journalism, noting that the media’s power to influence positive change should not be underestimated.
He commended the Correspondents’ Chapel for its professionalism and urged media practitioners to ensure their reports serve the best interests of their host communities, expressing hope that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration would improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Mrs. Bolanle Olukoju, represented by the Director of Information Services, Alhaji Olayinka Salau, said the administration inherited teething challenges but had brought relief through reforms, including the removal of petroleum subsidy and blocking leakages across sectors.
Other goodwill messages came from the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr. Kunle Akogun; Director-General, Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Comrade Isa Aremu, represented by Mrs. Damilola Omole; and former Kwara State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Abdulraheem Adedoyin, who all emphasised the critical role of the media in shaping society.
In his address titled Six Years of Service, One Chapel, One Purpose: Reflections and Renewed Hope, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Mallam Abdulhakeem Garba, thanked God for his six-year leadership and lauded members for their support.
Press Week Committee Chairman, Mr. Demola Akinyemi, described organising the chapel’s 45th anniversary celebration as a rare honour.
