The Al-Harakatul-Islamiyyah (also known as The Muslim Ummah) has condemned the gruesome killing of Hafsah Lawal, allegedly perpetrated by Abdulrahman Bello, describing it as un-Islamic and inhumane.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the Ameer of the group, Mallam Abdur-Razzaq Abdulwahhab Al-Ameen Aladodo, distanced true Islamic teachings from ritual killings, emphasizing that such practices—commonly referred to as Jalabi—are foreign to Islam and must never be associated with the religion.
He lamented that Ilorin, a city deeply rooted in Islamic civilization, is being infiltrated by corrupt individuals who twist religious doctrines for personal gain.
The group rejected media claims identifying Abdulrahman Bello as an Islamic cleric (Alfa), asserting that he is not a recognized scholar but one who has strayed into the path of corrupt scholars (Ulamau Suui) engaged in diabolical activities.
They called on the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and strict prosecution of those involved in the crime.
Al-Harakatul-Islamiyyah made several demands, including an end to political interference in justice, stricter laws against ritual killings, swift execution of convicted criminals, and stronger cyber and security laws.
The group also urged traditional rulers to stop awarding religious titles to questionable individuals, called on scholars to avoid glorifying corrupt figures, and advised parents to monitor their children’s online activities.
Commending religious leaders in Ilorin for their swift condemnation of the crime, the Islamic group reminded scholars and public commentators to speak with caution, warning that every word spoken will be accounted for on the Day of Judgment.
