The maiden Kwara Campus Poetry Championship (KCPC) is set to host a distinguished gathering of literary scholars, academics and creative practitioners as resource persons at its capacity-building workshop scheduled for October 3 in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Among those expected to lead sessions at the workshop are renowned poet and scholar, Professor Niyi Osundare; Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja and Kwara State University; Professor Remi-Oyelade Raji of the University of Ibadan; Professor Razinat Talatu Mohammed, University of Abuja; Dr. Eric Covey, Grand Valley State University, Michigan, USA; and Professor Nduka Otiono of Carleton University, Canada.
Other resource persons include Professor Abdulrasheed Adeoye, University of Ilorin; Professor Aisha A. Gobir, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital; Professor Saeedat Bolajoko Aliyu, Kwara State University; Mr Temi Kolawole, Managing Director of the Ilorin Innovation Hub; Tunde Ibrahim, CEO Cardify; and Aremo Gemini, who's a Yoruba spoken word artiste
The Convener of KCPC, Dr Mohammed Al-Amin El-Nasir, disclosed the list while giving an update on preparations for the workshop, which is part of activities for the maiden edition of the championship.
The workshop, scheduled for Saturday, 3 October 2026, at the Ilorin Innovation Hub, G.R.A., Ilorin, is expected to bring together poets, writers, students, academics, artists, cultural practitioners and other lovers of literature for mentorship, conversation and creative exchange.
The participation of the resource persons is expected to enrich the workshop with perspectives spanning poetry, literary scholarship, culture, creativity and social engagement, in line with the theme of the maiden KCPC, which is: “Poetry as a Catalyst for Gender Relations, Social Responsibility and Shared Nation Building.”
KCPC is a Kwara State Government-backed literary initiative conveyed by Ilorin Creative and Cultural Foundation in partnership with the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Kwara Chapter. The championship is aimed at discovering and nurturing young literary talents across tertiary institutions in the state while promoting creativity, responsible citizenship and intellectual engagement.
The October 3 workshop will precede the main KCPC Championship scheduled for Saturday, 24 October 2026, providing participants with an opportunity to learn from established voices and engage with practitioners within and beyond the state's literary community.
With the calibre and diversity of resource persons assembled, the workshop promises to be one of the major highlights of the maiden KCPC and a significant opportunity for emerging poets and creatives in Kwara to learn, connect and sharpen their craft.
