An early morning fire incident has ruined some shops in Unity Road, adjacent to First Bank in Ilorin, Kwara state.
A statement released on Sunday by the state Service's PRO, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle made this known.
"In the early hours of Sunday, June 7th, 2024, around 04:09 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire outbreak at No. 1 Unity Road, adjacent to First Bank in Ilorin, Kwara State.
"The fire crew promptly departed from the station upon receiving the call.
"Upon arrival, they found a block of 10 shops, with two shops ablaze.
"The firefighters immediately began efforts to extinguish the fire and minimize further damage.
"However, their progress was impeded by challenges with the electricity supply from IBEDC (Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company).
"SFO I Hassan Hakeem, Head of Media for the Kwara State Fire Service, contacted IBEDC's control room to request the shutdown of the Unity feeder, enabling the firefighters to effectively combat the blaze.
"The shops affected by the fire were identified as a phone and gadget shop, as well as a boutique.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge," it added.
Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, emphasized the importance of public safety awareness in light of this incident.
