The Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commandant Umar J.G Mohammed on Friday paraded a 28-year-old man, Muhammed Jamiu Maruf from Gbaaku Area, Okolowo Ilorin, for suspected involvement in impersonation and fraudulent activities.
In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Ayoola Micheal Shola and made available to FACTUAL NAIJA NEWS, Commandant Umar disclosed that the suspect was apprehended on Monday, 19th February 2024 following a complaint filed by Mallam Zakariyahu Maruf, alleging the suspect of unauthorized transfer from his account.
During the arrest, 3 complete sets of Nigeria Army Uniform, 3 Cutlasses, and 1 Red Electric Motorcycle bike we recovered from him.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect has never been enlisted in the Nigeria Army and has been exploiting and extorting money from the public, causing fear within the community.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect purchased an electric motorcycle bike from a seller named Mr. Dangote in Lagos for ₦500,000.
"He initially paid ₦100,000 and subsequently blocked the seller's contact to evade paying the remaining balance of ₦400,000," the Commandant noted.
He stated that the suspect confessed to the crime and will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.
Commandant Umar urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious of individuals with criminal intentions who deceive and defraud others.
The state NSCDC boss emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities to prevent further harm and protect the community from such fraudulent schemes.
