No fewer than fifteen media personnel in Kwara state have benefited from the three days training on good governance and accountability by Afritel Multimedia Limited (Albarka FM).
The training at the instance of Albarka FM in conjunction with the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism and MacArthur Foundation was meant to equip journalists on good governance and accountability at the community level in Kwara State.
The media personnel were drawn from across the media organizations in the state, and undergo a 3-day workshop from 9th to 11th of August, 2022.
The three-day training, held at Bovina Hotels in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital, saw participants being divided into two different groups and were subsequently taken on a field trip.
While the first group visited the Late General Tunde Idiagbon’s Fly-over in Tanke to confirm the status of the work done and the economic advantage of the ongoing project to the people of the area and the state at large, the second group went to investigate an abandoned skill acquisition centre located at Sobi Alagbado area which has been converted to secondary school but without enough classrooms.
The facilitators, namely Akinlolu Akinpelumi, Mayowa Adeniran, 'Sola Fagorusi, Charles Mbah and Akin Jimoh, who joined both physically and virtually, took the participants through the areas of Data Journalism, Investigative Journalism, Social Media, and Media Freedom among others.
The facilitators urged the journalist to take the advantage of the opportunity to become a well-rounded investigative journalist.
Speaking at the end of the three-day training, the General Manager of Albarka FM, Dr Rasheed Adigun said that the training was organized to enlighten Journalists to hold, not just the Government at the centre accountable, but to demand the same from the state, local governments as well as individuals as they are all stakeholders in ensuring accountability and good governance.
