The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the receipt and subsequent release of six vigilante members earlier arrested by personnel of the Nigerian Army in Edo State.
This confirmation was contained in a statement signed today by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command.
According to the statement, the vigilante members were received by the Command on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, after they were arrested along the Auchi–Ikpeshi Road in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspects, who were travelling in a vehicle belonging to Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, were formally handed over to the Police by the Brigade Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, Brigadier General N. N. Rume, for investigation and profiling.
Following a thorough investigation, the Police established that the individuals are bona fide members of a vigilante group operating in collaboration with recognised security agencies in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.
The Command stated that the vigilante members were consequently exonerated of any wrongdoing and released to their respective leaders.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, reiterated the Command’s commitment to inter-agency cooperation and effective collaboration with community-based security outfits, while urging all such groups to operate strictly within the confines of the law.
The Police assured members of the public of their continued resolve to ensure the safety and security of lives and property across Kwara State.
