The family of Pastor Awolola Samson has clarified reports surrounding his death, stating that contrary to earlier media accounts, he did not die as a direct result of a fire incident at the scene.
Speaking exclusively with Factual Naija News, the family explained that Pastor Awolola neither started the fire nor was responsible for its outbreak, as was widely reported in earlier publications.
According to them, the fire was ignited by a labourer who was working at the location, while the deceased was present solely in a supervisory capacity.
They further clarified that Pastor Awolola died after inhaling thick smoke from the fire while attempting to escape the area through a fence.
The family stressed that he was not burned to death, but rather succumbed to smoke inhalation during the incident.
In addition, the family corrected discrepancies in previous reports regarding the deceased’s age, stating that Pastor Awolola Samson was 65 years old at the time of his death, and not 73 as earlier reported by some media outlets.
The family has appealed to members of the public and the media to exercise greater caution and diligence in verifying facts before publication, noting that inaccurate reporting has caused them unnecessary pain and distress during an already difficult time.
