... 316 Earn First Class Honours
The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has finalised arrangements to award degrees and diplomas to a total of 11,886 graduating students during its 40th Convocation Ceremony, with 316 of them earning First Class Honours.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), disclosed this during a press briefing held on Monday ahead of the convocation events.
He gave a detailed breakdown of the graduating students as follows: 4,120 Second Class (Upper Division), 5,939 Second Class (Lower Division), 1,078 Third Class, and 11 Pass degree holders.
The week-long celebration, scheduled to run from October 17 to 26, 2025, will feature a variety of academic, cultural, and ceremonial activities highlighting the university’s achievements and commitment to excellence.
A major highlight of the event will be the Convocation Lecture titled “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World,” to be delivered by Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, on October 22, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
Professor Egbewole described the lecture as one of the key moments of the ceremony, noting that Fashola’s insights will be valuable to the younger generation as they transition into the professional world.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to commission newly completed projects across the university campus on October 23, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that this event underscores UNILORIN’s commitment to providing world-class infrastructure for teaching, research, and learning.
The convocation ceremonies will be held in phases vis: October 22- Graduates of four-year programmes and diploma holders; and October 23- Graduates of five- and six-year programmes, as well as postgraduate students.
Other activities lined up include: Juma’at Service: October 17, 2025, at the University Central Mosque; Interdenominational Church Service: October 19, 2025, at the Chapel of the Light; Convocation Play (“Joromi”): October 21, 2025, at the Performing Arts Theatre; and Investiture of Emeritus Professors: October 23, 2025, at the University Auditorium.
Professor Egbewole further revealed that seven distinguished academics will be conferred with the title of Emeritus Professor, as approved by the University Senate in recognition of their exceptional contributions to scholarship and service.
He reaffirmed UNILORIN’s position as an institution that has maintained an unbroken academic calendar, remained consistent in academic excellence, and continues to pursue its vision of becoming a world-class centre of learning and innovation.
