Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi, Kwara State, have neutralized a bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle during an operation along Lema-Daban Lema Road in Edu Local Government Area.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of Wednesday, was carried out by soldiers from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Patigi in Patigi Local Government Area. Acting on credible intelligence at about 12:10 a.m., the troops laid an ambush in the area and soon made contact with the armed bandits.
An exchange of fire ensued, during which the soldiers, using superior firepower, forced the criminals to retreat in disarray. Pursuing the fleeing assailants, the troops neutralized one bandit and recovered key items, including: one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one motorcycle.
The Army confirmed that the remains of the neutralized bandit have been handed over to relevant authorities for further action.
In a statement issued in Ilorin, Captain Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, praised the vigilance and effectiveness of the troops, noting their sustained pressure on criminal elements within the area.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, commended the gallantry and resilience of the soldiers.
He urged them to remain relentless and to continue taking the fight to the enemy.
He further reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to intensifying operations and deploying all legitimate means to rid the region of criminal elements while ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens.
