The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intensified its efforts to ensure a peaceful Yuletide season by deploying 2,500 personnel across the state to protect critical national assets and ensure public safety.
Dr. Umar J.G. Muhammed, the NSCDC Commandant in Kwara, announced the deployment in a statement issued today by the Command's spokesperson Ayoola Michael Shola to FACTUAL NAIJA NEWS.
He emphasised that officers from various specialized units, including the Armed Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Anti-Vandal Unit, and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive Unit (CBRNE), among others have been strategically stationed across all 16 local government areas.
"These officers are tasked with safeguarding recreational and religious centers, marketplaces, and critical government infrastructure during this festive period," Commandant Umar said. "We have also deployed intelligence operatives for 24/7 surveillance and both overt and covert patrols to deter criminal activities."
Commandant Umar extended his goodwill messages to residents for a joyous Christmas and New Year while issuing a stern warning to those contemplating vandalism of government property.
He stated that offenders would face severe punishment, including a 21-year prison sentence without the option of a fine.
The Commandant also highlighted the collaboration between the NSCDC and other security agencies, including local vigilantes, to ensure a seamless and secure festive season.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, prioritize their safety, and report suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
The Kwara State NSCDC has reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security during and beyond the Yuletide period.
