The Ido-Osun Youth Forum has raised concerns over alleged attempts to bypass traditional processes in the selection of a new Olojudo of Ido-Osun following the demise of Oba Aderemi Adeen Adedapo, Sapoyoro I.
The group has accused certain individuals of trying to impose a candidate without adhering to the kingdom's established customs, a move they described as a threat to peace and order.
In a press statement signed by its Secretary, Mr. Akano Kamorudeen, and the Office of the Public Relations Officers (PROs), the group expressed displeasure over what it termed a “kangaroo warrant chief arrangement” allegedly being facilitated to impose a prince as the new monarch.
“The government of Osun State should understand that traditional institutions like the Olojudo kingship have established procedures that must be followed. Despite the existence of the 1955 declaration, the Osun State government has connived to impose a prince as king on the Ido-Osun people without the knowledge or approval of the kingmakers,” the statement read.
The group called on Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Timi of Ede, and other political figures to respect the kingdom's traditions and steer clear of the kingship process until the proper selection procedures have been completed.
“Any individual parading himself as the new Olojudo without following due process should be disregarded. We implore the state government to desist from actions that could throw Ido-Osun into unnecessary security unrest,” the statement continued.
The Youth Forum outlined its demands to the Osun State Government, urging immediate action to: investigate the alleged fraudulent selection process, consult with the Ido-Osun kingmakers and ensure a fair and transparent process, as well as prevent any further attempts to impose an illegitimate candidate on the people.
They further urged all contestants and residents to remain peaceful and patient until the kingmakers officially announce a candidate.
The group also called on law enforcement to act professionally during this period to maintain peace.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, Mr. Kamorudeen said: “We will not stand idly by while our traditions and customs are disrespected and undermined. The Ido-Osun people deserve a monarch chosen in line with our heritage. Any attempt to impose an illegitimate candidate will be met with fierce resistance.”
The Ido-Osun Youth Forum affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the kingdom’s traditions and vowed to continue monitoring the situation closely.
