The Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, has advocated active participation of women in politics for genuine inclusion in governance and to drive national development.
Mustapha, in a statement issued from his media office in Ilorin today to commemorate International Women’s Day, underscored the need to encourage and involve more women in politics so as to take their rightful place in the decision-making table.
The legislator, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development, harped on the need to break the glass ceiling that impedes the progress of women.
Mustapha said, "Our aspiration and goal as a nation would be fully realised when the potentials of women are fully harnessed.
"Women are great asset of this nation, and we will continue to support them by protecting and upholding their dignity for them to fully harness their potentials.
"We will nominate and support women for emerging opportunities whenever the need arises. Supporting one another is a duty we owe them and must be carried out everytime for women to move on”.
The legislator therefore urged women to press forward, challenge stereotypes and question old practices that are antithetical to women development.
