The three senators from Kwara State have clarified that none of them has received the federal government palliatives intended for distribution to their constituents.
In a statement jointly signed by the three senators representing Kwara Central, Saliu Mustapha; Kwara South, Lola Ashiru; and Kwara North senatorial district, Sodiq Umar, mentioned that the disbursements were still awaited.
"This clarification becomes imperative due to obvious misinformation in some quarters especially the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party suggesting that the federal government palliatives had been disbursed to individual legislators and are either being hoarded or diverted," the statement noted.
They, therefore, urged the public to disregard entirely the misinformation being peddled by the purveyors of fake news in the state.
According to the statement, while it is true that the Federal Government has approved allocations of food palliatives through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to be disbursed to various constituencies through individual members of the National Assembly, the disbursements are still pending at this very moment.
“As representatives of the people, we are irrevocably committed to the principles of transparency and accountability. We assure our various constituents of adequate and timely information on the FGN food palliatives as soon as they are disbursed by the ministry.
“We thank all our constituents from across the 16 local government areas of the state for their patience, prayers, and understanding so far,” the statement said.
