A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Aminu Ali
Shana has been arrested in Kano State with 367 suspected Permanent Voters
Cards, PVC.
Kano State Police spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who
confirmed the development to Daily Sun, revealed that the suspect had been
taken into their custody, saying investigation had commenced.
Aminu, who is the APC Chairman of the Yautan Arewa ward in
Gabasawa Local Government Area of the State, was according to the police,
arrested on October 14, 2022.
It was gathered that the police had dispatched the suspected
PVCs to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for confirmation.
After that, all the persons whose faces appeared on the cards might be invited
for questioning.
The offence contravenes Section 21 and 22 sub-section 1(a),
(b) and (c) of the Electoral Act (amended).
Recall that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano
State had through its spokesperson, Sanusi Bature raised the alarm, alleging
that some politicians in the State were hoarding/buying PVCs from voters in
areas where they doubt their chances of performing well in the 2023 general
elections.
