Ekiti State Government has confirmed the death of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye.
The 66-year-old lawmaker, who represented Ikere Constituency 1, passed away on Wednesday.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode issued a statement Wednesday night.
The spokesperson noted that the state government was sad about Afuye’s demise.
“Rt. Hon Afuye died Wednesday evening at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado- Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest, ” he said.
The deceased was a former Commissioner of Information and two-time member of the State Legislature.
Afuye assumed office as Speaker of the sixth Assembly on June 6, 2019.
