The Plateau State Police Command, on Sunday morning, confirmed that four men were killed at a mining site by yet to be identified gunmen on Saturday evening.
FACTUAL NAIJA NEWS gathered that the Command, through its
Public Relations Officer, ASP Ubah Ogaba, confirmed this in an interview in
Jos, the State Capital.
Ogaba said, “Four men who went to a mining site at Mai Farin
Mota were shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen.”
According to him, “The scene was visited by the police and
has been beefed up with security.”
He said investigation had since commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the four miners.
Meanwhile, FACTUAL NAIJA NEWS learnt that there was massive
protest on Sunday by residents of Dong Community in Jos North Local Government
Area of Plateau State.
The angry residents brandishing green leaves and branches of
trees cut from the nearby bush blocked the major roads passing through the
community while calling for justice.
A resident of the community, John Emmanuel, who confirmed the development gave reasons for the protests.
Emmanuel said, “Yesterday, (Saturday), some gunmen suspected
to be herdsmen stormed Dong community in Jos South LGA. They went to a mining
site where some people were working in the community and attacked them, killing
four persons and injuring two others.
“So, this morning (Sunday) the residents, mainly the Youths
in the community, came out to protest against the incessant killings in their
community and demanded Justice because there had been series of such attacks
and killings in the community in the past with nothing done to stop further
incidents.”
