Kwara State Polytechnic (KwaraPoly) has secured approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to commence a National Diploma (ND) programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI) from the next academic session.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, disclosed this at the opening ceremony of the 7th Annual International Conference of the Institute of Applied Sciences, held at the Admiral Mohammed Lawal Auditorium.
The conference, themed “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development in Sciences and Applied Sciences,” brought together academics, professionals and other stakeholders to examine the growing influence and applications of artificial intelligence.
Speaking at the event, the Rector commended the Institute for choosing what he described as a timely and relevant theme, noting that artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming virtually every aspect of human life and activities.
He expressed confidence that participants would benefit from the research papers and lectures to be presented during the conference, urging them to pay close attention to the sessions and make the most of the knowledge shared.
Mohammed also called for ideas, research papers and other scholarly contributions that could support the successful take-off of the new ND programme in Artificial Intelligence.
He said the Polytechnic would welcome contributions capable of adding value to the programme and strengthening its academic foundation.
The NBTE approval is expected to strengthen Kwara State Polytechnic’s position as one of the early institutions in Nigeria to offer Artificial Intelligence at the National Diploma level, while providing students with opportunities to acquire skills in an increasingly important area of technology.
