The Federal Government and Kwara State Government have ordered an immediate traffic diversion following the overnight collapse of the old Moro Bridge after it reportedly caved in under the weight of a heavy-duty truck.
Authorities have also commenced palliative work on an alternative route to reduce disruptions and ensure the steady movement of vehicles along the corridor.
According to a statement issued by the Kwara State Ministry of Works through its Press Secretary, Olajide Moyo Abolarin, “State traffic managers are to work with transport unions and commuters to maintain orderly passage on the alternative route while palliative work begins immediately on the old iron-made bridge. We call for patience and understanding of road users and others while the emergency is resolved.”
The state government said engineers from the Ministry of Works have been deployed to the site to fast-track temporary repairs, while federal authorities continue construction on the new Moro Bridge located a few meters from the damaged structure.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution, cooperate with traffic officials, and adhere to diversion directives as emergency response efforts continue.
