After the Jumu’at prayer on Friday, October 17, 2025, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, spoke strongly against some youths in Lafiagi Emirate, for constantly sharing unverified, defamatory and misleading information online to stir the people against the government.
The Emir mentioned that some elders were also involved in giving these youths false stories to post and spread. “We have looked into some of these things and even talked to the youths involved. There’s clear evidence that some people send them these false stories to publish,” he said in the video, which was delivered in Nupe.
He also spoke about the Lafiagi Waterworks project, saying that everyone knows the challenges and that it’s best to handle the matter peacefully, where there's need for clarifications while acknowledging the state government’s financial commitment to the project.
The Emir while speaking on ongoing legal case against the Nupeko TV-Lafiagi publisher and the Honourable Commissioner said, "You can’t insult or defame someone and expect there won’t be consequences. What is happening to NupekoTV-Lafiagi is what he wants for himself"
He further questioned those claiming to have privately appealed to the Honourable Commissioner to withdraw the case, asking why they have not openly stated the reasons for his refusal, noting that the people of Patigi have supported him because they know the truth -- or, as he humorously asked the congregation, “Is it because the Commissioner is not our son?”
The Emir’s comments came after several online posts and attacks believed to have been made to cause confusion and division in the community. He advised everyone, especially the youths, to focus on unity, truth, and peace.
