The Kwara State Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has elected a new set of executives to steer the affairs of the association for the next two years.
The election, held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the State Secretariat in Ilorin, followed the formal dissolution of the outgoing executive committee led by Mr. Babayemi Opeyemi. The electoral process was supervised by the Assistant National Secretary, Mallam Abdur-Rahman Aderinoye, who represented the ANA National leadership under the presidency of Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi.
Addressing members virtually, the National President, Dr. Akanbi, expressed regret over his inability to attend the election in person due to a concurrent national executive meeting. He, however, extended his best wishes for a peaceful and successful transition.
At the end of the open-ballot election, the following officers emerged:
- Chairman: Dr. (Mrs) Betty Ige
- Vice Chairman: Mr. El-Nasir M. Al-Amin
- Secretary: Mr. Abdulhafeez T. Oyewole
- Assistant Secretary/Public Relations Officer: Mr. AbdulWahab Abass
- Financial Secretary/Treasurer: Mrs. Sakeenah Jatto-Oyewole
- Welfare Secretary/Ex-Officio 2: Mrs. Rofiat AbdulKareem-Seidu
- Ex-Officio 1: Mr. Babayemi Opeyemi
In his remarks, Mallam Aderinoye commended the outgone executives for their dedicated service and described their efforts as commendable. He congratulated the new team and encouraged them to build on the foundation laid by their predecessors.
In her acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Dr. (Mrs) Betty Ige, expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in her leadership. She emphasized the need for collective effort and unity among members to elevate ANA Kwara’s profile and ensure continued literary excellence.
“I pledge to give my best in service to the Association and appeal for the cooperation and support of all members as we move forward together,” she said.
