The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Mohammed Bello Matawalle, has highlighted significant achievements by the Nigerian Armed Forces in combating insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges.
Speaking during an engagement with the Special Assistant to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, at the Ship House in Abuja, Matawalle noted that many successes remain undisclosed for security reasons to protect frontline troops.
During the presentation of the Q1–Q3 2024 Performance Assessment Report on Presidential Priorities and Ministerial Deliverables, Dr. Matawalle emphasized the reduction in oil theft, piracy, and kidnapping since the administration took office, pledging continued efforts to enhance national safety.
The Minister assured that the Ministry would submit achievement data promptly to facilitate reviews.
In her remarks, Hadiza Bala Usman urged the Ministry to share more data with the public to counter doubts and negative feedback, suggesting regional tours of affected areas for firsthand assessments and interviews with rescued individuals to provide concrete evidence of progress.
Adding to the discussion, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, praised the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs for their dedication and called on Directors to maintain their commitment to national service. Dr. Kana also promised to surpass the Ministry’s previous performance in future reports.
