The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, on Tuesday hosted Kwara-born African Senior Squash Champions at the Government House, Ilorin, to celebrate their remarkable achievements at the just-concluded African Squash Games in Namibia.
The champions, Issac Blessing, AbdulAzeez Rofiat, and Khadijat Abdulraheem, were accompanied by key figures who have supported their journey to success, including the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji; the Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Oladele Bako; President of the Kwara Development Group, Olaide Ahli; the Chief Coach of Squash, Coach Isiaka Mogaji; and Assistant Coach, Balikis Mogaji.
Governor AbdulRazaq, in his address, expressed his pride in the athletes, noting that their achievements are a testament to Kwara’s growing status as a hub for sports excellence. “The success of these champions reflects the hard work and dedication of not only the athletes but also their coaches and supporters. It also demonstrates the potential of our youth when given the right opportunities and environment,” he said.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to sports development, emphasizing ongoing investments in infrastructure and grassroots programs to nurture young talents across various sports disciplines.
Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, praised the governor’s unwavering support, which he said has been instrumental in the athletes’ success. He highlighted the recent upgrades to sports facilities in the state and commended the collaboration between stakeholders in driving sports development.
The athletes expressed their gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq, the Sports Commission, and their coaches for the unwavering support they have received. They also called for sustained investments in sports to ensure that Kwara State continues to produce champions on the international stage.
Other dignitaries present, including Mallam Ibrahim Oladele Bako, Olaide Ahli, Coach Isiaka Mogaji, and Balikis Mogaji, lauded the governor’s efforts in prioritizing sports development and pledged their continued commitment to supporting young athletes in the state.
The courtesy visit concluded with the champions displaying their medals, as the governor reaffirmed his commitment to deepening investments in sports and providing more opportunities for Kwaran youths to excel globally.
