The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kwara State Command, marked a significant milestone today, Wednesday, November 27, 2024, as it hosted the trophy and awards presentation ceremony for the recently concluded Joint Paramilitary Tournament in the state.
The keenly contested tournament featured teams from seven paramilitary agencies, including: Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, NSCDC, NDLEA, Federal Fire Service, and Nigerian Customs Service.
The games featured a variety of sports, with the Nigeria Police Force emerging as the football champions, while the Nigerian Correctional Service clinched the volleyball title.
The Nigerian Immigration Service excelled in table tennis, and the NSCDC and Federal Fire Service secured second and third places, respectively, in volleyball.
In traditional games, the Nigerian Correctional Service triumphed in the draft competition, while the Nigeria Police took home the Ayo Olopon medal.
Notably, CA1 Isiaq Olanrewaju Yusuf of the Nigerian Correctional Service was awarded the Highest Scorer Trophy for netting seven goals during the football competition.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Kwara State Controller of Corrections, Danmairomu Shuaib Ayodeji, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah, the participants, and officers for fostering interagency collaboration through sports.
He also appreciated the support of the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, for providing the enabling environment for such initiatives.
The sports unit leaders, ACC Abigail Oredun Ogunbiyi and SC Salman Saadu, praised the officers and participants for their dedication and sportsmanship.
They emphasized that the tournament promotes love, discipline, and mutual respect among rank and file while enhancing camaraderie across agencies.
The event will conclude with a joint jogging exercise scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, 2024, to honor retiring officers and men in the command.
