The Kwara state Commissioner of Police, Mr Victor Olaiya has ordered deployment of human and tactical resources to every part of the state to ensure peaceful and secure celebration of the 64th Independence Anniversary in the state.
The Command made this known in a statement issued on Monday night and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, on behalf of the state Police Commissioner.
Olaiya said that the police in collaboration with other security agencies will secure key venues and highways in every part of the state and safeguard lives and property during the October 1st Independence Day celebration.
The statementread: “As we celebrate our nation’s 64th Independence, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara state Command, Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has ordered the deployment of human and tactical resources across Kwara State to ensure a seamless and secure celebration. In collaboration with other security agencies, the police will secure key venues and highways, safeguarding lives and property during and after the event.
“In addition, the Kwara state Police Command is aware of the planned protest on October 1, 2024. While the police respect the rights to a peaceful assembly, all protests must comply within the ambience of the law. Organizers are reminded to adhere to the court ruling, which designates the Metropolitan Square along Asa-Dam Road as the only approved location for any gatherings. Any attempt to disrupt public peace or hold protests at unauthorized locations, such as the Post Office, will be swiftly addressed.
“The Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya psc(+) felicitates with Kwarans on this occasion, urging reflection on the nation’s journey, and reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding peace and upholding the rule of law.
