Veteran journalist and former News Editor of The Herald Newspaper, Rowland Shuwa has been elected General Secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ).
Kogi born Shuwa was elected on Saturday, August 3, 2024 in the 2024 NGIJ biennial electoral cycle determined virtually.
Multi-talented Shuwa is a former State Secretary of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Managing Editor of Kogi Updates and Editor of News Hub Mag. He has earlier served as the pioneer Financial Secretary of the NGIJ and pioneer Associate Executive Editor of the soon to debut Guild of Digital Journalists (GDJ)'s News Blog Site.
The Kwara based journalist is also the current Ethics and Quality Control Secretary of the GDJ.
In a message of felicitation released Saturday evening, the Chairman Guild of Digital Journalists (GDJ), Opeyemi Daniel Adeoti, on behalf of the GDJ, described the newly elected General Secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists as "a coveted asset in a professional organization " and pray for his continued success in all his endeavours in this new assignment.
The association further restated belief in the capabilities of the new Secretary to help deepen democracy by contributing meaningfully to journalistic investigations in the country.
This platform reports that Mallam AbdulRahman Aliagan, an Abuja based journalist, emerged as the President while Oyewale Oyelola emerged Vice President 1 and Comrade James Ezema (Vice President ll).
Other executive members are Gbenga Shaba, Treasurer; Ifeoma Ikem, Auditor and Abdullahi Gulloma, Public Relations Officer.
The Chairman of the 2024 NGIJ National Electoral Committee, Olalekan Oladigbo while declaring the winners of the election said the new executive will serve for a term of two years.
