Following the recent announcement of September 21, 2024 as the date for the conduct of elections for the offices of chairmen and councillors for the 16 local government areas of Kwara State, the Kwara state Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) have released the timetable of activities leading to the exercise.
In a release signed by Chairman of the Commission, Okanla Baba on Saturday, the schedule of activities for the local government election across Kwara state are as follows:
(1) Meeting/interface with all the Registered Political Parties leadership: Friday, June 21, 2024.
(2) Political Parties’ primaries elections: Monday, June 24th — 30th, 2024.
(3) Political parties to obtain and return nomination forms KWSIEC 01 and KWSIEC 02 for Chairmanship and Councilorship Elections: Monday July 1st– 5th July, 2024
(4) Verification of Candidates’ credentials: Monday 8th — Friday 19th July, 2024.
(5) Display of names of Candidates Nominated by Political Parties to be posted on KWSIEC notice board: Monday July 22nd — Friday 26th, 2024.
(6) Training of Ad-hoc Staff in all the three senatorial Districts: Saturday July 27th — Wednesday July 31st, 2024.
(7) Last Day for withdrawal of Candidate (if need be): Monday August 5th, 2024.
(8) Last Day for Publication of List of Nominated Candidates: Tuesday August 6th, 2024.
(9) Political Parties’ Campaign starts on: Monday August 19th and ends on the midnight of Thursday 19th September, 2024.
(10) Elections Day for Chairmanship and Councilorship positions: September 21, 2024.
(11) Collection of Certificate of Returns: Monday September 23rd, 2024.
FACTUAL NAIJA NEWS reports the release of the Kwara state local government election schedule of activities by KWSIEC have put to rest, insinuation in some quarters that the election may not hold on September 21st, 2024 earlier announced by the Commission.
