The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has felicitated with members of the institution's Christian community and the Christendom at large on the occasion of this year's Easter celebrations, describing the events that led to the institutionalisation of the festivities as enduring lessons for mankind.
In a statement signed by the University's Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor thanked the Almighty God for preserving the lives of members of the University community to witness this year's Easter celebrations.
He added that the celebrations, which coincided with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, is a lesson in unity and fraternity not only for the adherents of Islam and Christianity but also to the entire human community, saying that human beings are one and the same people created by the Almighty God for the purpose of extolling His greatness.
Prof. Egbewole said that members of the human community, particularly Christians, must always reflect on the enduring attributes of Jesus Christ whose experience before, during and after his crucifixion more than 2000 years ago laid the foundation of the celebrations.
He enjoined all to emulate and always exhibit the honesty, humility, simplicity, piety, generousity, sacrifice and perseverance of Jesus Christ in their private and public lives for the nation not only to be at peace with itself but also witness tremendous rapid development.
Prof. Egbewole assured members of the University community that his administration would continue to treat all with fairness and equality and without any form of consideration for region, tribe or faith.
