The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has arrested a twenty five years old Muhammed Abubakar for allegedly assaulted a civil defence officer and also made attempt to defraud POS operators and filling station attendant.
NSCDC spokesman in Kwara State Babawale Zaid Afolabi disclosed this in a release made available to the newsmen in Ilorin on Saturday. According to him the suspect committed the offence at Amoyo area of the State capital.
"On Saturday 11/12/2021, we received a distress call at our Amoyo division over a case of assault, attempted fraud and stealing by trick levelled against one Muhammed Abubakar, 25, who was accused to have made attempt to defraud a filling station attendant Abdulraheem Nafisat of a sum more than fifty thousand naira. "
He spoke further that the suspect bought fuel and another yougourt product in the filling station and also asked the attendant to transfer sum of 50, 000,00 naira to his account. The suspect was expected to pay cash to the POS operator which he declined and made attempt to leave the filling station without making all the necessary payments.
The POS/filling station attendant later raised alarm which attracted officers of the NSCDC and the man was later picked up. He reportedly assaulted one of the NSCDC officers during the course of investigation.
Further interrogation revealed that the suspect was a serial fraudster who had earlier defrauded an hotel receptionist and also one supermarket attendant.
In the meantime, the State Commandant Iskilu Ayinla Makinde has been briefed of the incident and had called for full scale investigations after which the suspect will be charged to court.
