The 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2022) is approaching, and some of the world's top players are ever ready to compete in Cameroon.
Players from the Premier League and around the world will leave their clubs at a vital stage in the season to assist their country earn the right to be named Africa's best football country.
Riyad Mahrez led Algeria to a victory over Senegal in the final of the 2019 AFCON in Cairo. And now, with the competition lasting around a month, spectators can look forward to another feast on the field of play.
KICK-OFF DATE:
On Sunday, January 9, the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off with host Cameroon taking on Burkina Faso.
The competition's knockout phases begin on Sunday, January 23, with the competition's final scheduled for Sunday, February 6.
FORMAT:
The 24 competing nations have been divided into six groups of four teams, each of which will play three group matches.
The round of 16 will be decided by the six group winners, six group runners-up, and the four best third-place teams in each group.
Following that, each tie will be a one-off match, with the winner determined by extra time and penalties to deduce who advances to the next round.
